Now, there are 2 approaches to rhinoplasty. It might be an open rhinoplasty or a closed rhinoplasty, both have their own advantages and disadvantages. In open rhinoplasty, there is an external scar on the nose which is generally not visible because it is situated on the underside of the nose which is called as the columellar part of the nose. Open rhinoplasty surgery is most suitable if the amount of corrections to be done in the nose are huge. So when the surgeon is faced with large amounts of modifications, he/she would prefer open rhinoplasty. In close rhinoplasty, there are incisions too, but these incisions are situated inside the nose, so there is no external scar that is visible and therefore it is suitable only for minor corrections. The advantage is that there are no scars in this surgery.

During rhinoplasty, after the skin is cut it is elevated from the underlined bony and cartilaginous framework which gives the shape to the nose there after the shape of the framework is altered either by trimming or suturing or adding a few things, after which the skin and the soft tissue is again redraped over the nose, giving it the more pleasing shape.
